Our Actions for a Lower-Impact Industry

Sustainability is the reason Susmaterials exists. We do not treat lower-impact materials as a trend to follow, but as the direction the whole industry has to move in — and we want to help brands get there sooner. Every material we offer is selected to move at least one part of your product toward recycled content, plant-based inputs or reduced-footprint processing.

  • Plant-based by default. Our leather alternatives are built around regenerating, low-irrigation crops such as nopal cactus, apple pomace and pineapple-leaf fibre — agricultural by-products and hardy plants instead of virgin animal hides.
  • Recycled fibre at scale. Our recycled polyester programmes divert post-consumer plastic from landfill and ocean waste streams, giving discarded bottles a second life as durable, certification-ready textiles.
  • Verifiable, not just claimed. We work within recognised systems — GRS, GOTS and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — so the lower-impact story behind your product is verifiable, with documentation available to qualified buyers on request.
  • Traceability first. We map where and how each material is made and share that picture with your team, because a credible sustainability claim starts with knowing your supply chain.
  • Honest about boundaries. Where a material still relies on polymer binders or is not the right fit, we say so. We would rather give you an accurate material narrative than an exaggerated one.

Our ambition is a supply chain where recycled and renewable inputs are the norm rather than the premium option. We are not there yet, and neither is the industry — but every collection we help convert is a step in that direction.

  2. Receive matched swatches. We send relevant swatch cards and, where useful, our Selection Guide so you can compare options side by side.
  3. Sample and validate. Develop against your own product standard with sample yardage and test data available on request.
  4. Scale to bulk. Move from first collection to repeat bulk programmes with one accountable sourcing partner.

Standards and Third-Party Testing We Work With

GRS (Global Recycled Standard) · GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) · OEKO-TEX Standard 100 · SGS third-party testing. REACH compliance is a legal requirement for anything placed on the EU market, not a point of difference — we supply the REACH documentation your EU-bound production needs on request. Relevant documentation is available on request for qualified buyers — we do not publish certificates publicly. Learn how each system applies to our materials.

These Material Categories Are Already in Commercial Production

The materials we supply are not experimental. Recycled polyester, recycled cotton, and plant-based leather alternatives made from cactus, apple and pineapple-leaf fibre have all moved out of pilot batches and into repeat commercial programmes across fashion, footwear and accessories.

We do not name our customers, and we do not display brand marks we have no relationship with. If you want to know whether a specific material has already run in production at your volume, ask us — we will tell you what we actually know, including where we do not know.
